From time to time we will have older pups or adults that are looking for forever homes. Sometimes they are retired mommas, or older pups that we kept back for evaluation and have decided they aren't the perfect fit for our program. All older pups and adults will likely have quite a bit of information about them since we know their personalities, flaws, and what kind of home would be best for them. If you see a pup or dog you are interested in, please don't hesitate to send us a message with the Let's Chat button at the bottom of the screen or by email: sparklesandspursdachshunds@gmail.com

Meet Oakley! Affectionately 'Okie', 'Okie Dokie', or 'Orkie Dorkie'. This girl is 3 years old and is searching for the perfect retirement home. She is our smallest little girl, pre-pregnancy she was just over 8 pounds. After strict kennel rest after a c-section she is just over 9 pounds. Very petite. She is a longhaired chocolate dapple. She also has heterochromia (one blue eye and one brown eye).
Oakley is: Dog friendly with all ages and sizes of both genders. People friendly, she loves adults, younger kids, older kids, anyone will give her attention is her best friend. She would be a great little dog for a family, or even a couple or older person who lives alone. She has never really been around cats, but her focus has always been getting attention and love. She will sleep on the couch or bed with you. She wants love all the time. She's a total velcro girl.
Oakley had 6 puppies in her second (last) pregnancy and it was too much for her tiny body to handle naturally. She ended up needing a cesarean section and we will not risk breeding her again, for her health. She went in to be spayed last week, but after dropping her off our vet let us know that her cesarean incision needs more time to heal for the scar tissue and all before she undergoes another surgery. Everything looks great its all closed up, no infections, no inflammation, no issues, just the scar tissue is thick around her scar and needs some time.
That said, her fee will be discounted to $1,700 with a strict spay contract that she will be spayed within the next 6 months and will not be around any intact male dogs until this is done. She is NOT a breeding prospect. Papers will not be provided while she is still intact.
If you'd like to reserve Oakley and us have her spay completed with our vet and get her healed up from that here, we can absolutely do that, her fee will be $2,200. We would estimate her being able to come home probably around mid to late June in that case.
Oakley just received a fresh rabies vaccine, she's been vaccinated yearly for parvo, parainfluenza, distemper, adenovirus. She will need bordatella if you plan to board her, she has always lived with us and never had to be boarded or around strange dogs. We also do not give Leptospirosis vaccines. If you are in an area with a high risk of Lepto that is an option. We believe the risk of adverse reactions we have seen from this vaccine outweighs the risks.
She has been dewormed regularly, on top of receiving Nexgard Plus every month to protect against heartworms, fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites.
She has no known food or environmental allergies. We typically feed a mix of Pro Plan Performance and Diamond Natural All Life. She's eaten chicken, lamb, salmon varieties all without issue. We have recently been mixing in Honest Kitchen Whole Food clusters and she is liking it as well. She does LOVE canned food however. So we use it as a topper on her food. Her favorite treat is peanut butter. She will go to town on a peanut butter filled Kong.
*Oakley really only has one real quirk (all the best dogs do LOL). She is housebroken and will potty outside when taken out regularly. She is kennel trained. Quiet in the kennel, waits to be taken out, does not destroy her bedding. But, she will piddle on the floor or kennel if you go to pick her up. Some hyper or very affectionate dogs have the 'excited pee' or submissive/excited urination quirk. This can usually be mitigated by doggy diapers or the female over pants. She is our only girl who does, but I know this is an absolute dealbreaker for some homes, and understand that! We want to be 100% transparent on the type of home and issues any of our dogs need to insure we find the right fit for them as individuals. Overall, Oakley is the sweetest girl around, not overly yappy, loves to be loved on, still has some puppy energy to get out and play, then wants to be the center of your attention and receive all the love.
